Requirements:
Goal: Acquiring new theoretical and practical knowledge in change management in the railway transport market, methods and techniques of change management in the transport market, demand prediction in the changing transport market, supply management, and transport capacity allocation.
Outcome: Students will be able to apply knowledge of change management in the railway transport market, to understand the railway business process management, analyze business changes and defines key success indicators, defines the railway customer's requirements, analyze the stability and change in the business decisions concerning the transport market.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Transport service providers - passenger and freight transport services, and measuring the service quality.
  2. Transport service elasticity.
  3. Cost functions in the transport sector - theoretical and empirical approach.
  4. Factors of transport demand.
  5. Regulatory impact assessment on transport market and transport services (regional, national, and international).
  6. Evaluating the effects of changes on customers' benefits and companies' function (changes in services fees, service quality, income, subsidies, taxes, etc.) - examples of railway operators in the EU countries.
  7. A theoretical approach for the analysis of transport operators’ behavior on transport market.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Analysis of value concepts of costs and effects - examples of the internal economy of transport companies. Presentation of an individual seminar paper.
