Requirements:
Goal: Introducing the students to the basics of constructing and modeling women’s and men’s clothing. Training the students in constructing, modeling and finishing of clothing.
Outcome: Upon fulfilling their pre-exam obligations and passing the exam, the students should be capable of applying the obtained knowledge in producing individual garments, both independently and in a team.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Anthropologic and anthropometric characteristics significant in apparel construction.
  2. The golden ratio. Body measurements.
  3. Sizing chart systems for women's clothing. Procedures in constructing womenswear patterns.
  4. Construction of a skirt.
  5. Construction of a blouse.
  6. Construction of a dress.
  7. Construction of a dress.
  8. Construction of women's trousers.
  9. Construction of a women's jacket.
  10. Construction of a women's jacket.
  11. Sizing chart systems for men's clothing. Procedures in constructing menswear.
  12. Construction of a men's shirt.
  13. Construction of men's trousers.
  14. Construction of a men's jacket.
  15. Construction of a men's jacket.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Anthropologic and anthropometric characteristics (making a plastron, design solution). Body measurements and measuring procedures (working with different materials). Applying relevant standards (creating a technical drawing). Construction and modeling of women's and men's garments following the theoretical instruction.
