                        Outcome:
Students can understand the principles of communication standards, their practical application and the ability to convert standards.

                    Contents of the course

                Theoretical instruction:
                    - Introductory lecture (introduction to the plan and program, goals, outcome and methods).
 - What are communication standards, historical overview. Technical, regulatory and economic aspects of communication standards. Standardization procedure.
 - Reliability and quality of services in infrastructure systems (communication and energy systems).
 - Signal propagation in wired and wireless systems. Communication standards of the physical level of wired networks.
 - Standardization of physical transmission media. Structural cabling
 - Basics of transmission in communication networks. Protocols: ARP, DNS, DHCP, TCP, UDP, IP. Network (LAN, MAN, WAN), broadband services and applications
 - IP MultimediaSubsystem (IMS), VoIP and IPTV
 - Broadband cable access (xDSL, ADSL, HDSL, RADSL, VDSL, DSLAM, DOCSIS) Hybridfiber-coaxial (HFC)
 - Optical Networks (WDM, DWDM). Optical broadband access (G-PON, B-PON, E-PON)
 - Cable TV – CATV
 - Hybrid Broadband Broadcast TV - HBBTV
 - Wireless communication standards: IEEE 802.11 and additional manufacturer standards. IEEE 802.11n, 802.11ac, WiMAX (IEEE 802.16).
 - Standards of mobile communication systems. (LTE, MobileWiMAX). Mobile OTT services.
 - Audio and video standards (JPEG, MPEG, H.26x, 3D).
 - Final considerations and preparation for the written part of the exam.

Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
                    - Students will be introduced to practical examples of the application of standards in communication systems. A special part of the practical lessons is the conversion of standards in Ubuntu, such as changes in audio and video standards
